A Baby Naming Ceremony is a non religious ceremony formally celebrating the arrival of a child safely into the world to share the family's happiness and joy with extended family members and closest friends. A child is the most precious gift in the world so why not celebrate by holding a very special and unique Naming Ceremony.
Creating a personal and meaningful ceremony together can be an extremely rewarding experience. Symbols such as the following may be incorporated in the ceremony:
- A candle-lighting ceremony signifying guidance, protection and a blessing of the child's journey through life. The parents, godparents or grandparents may wish to speak of affirmations they have for the child as their role in the nurturing of the child.
- A balloon release ceremony containing hopes and wishes from those attending the ceremony and from special people unable to attend
- The release of butterflies to signify new life
- A guest book containing the names of the guests and their special wishes for the future of the child.
- The planting of and dedicating of a tree to the child
Scattering of rose petals or drops of water may also be included in the ceremony.
The words of the ceremony are chosen to reflect the values of the parents and family. Every naming ceremony is unique and offers flexibility to meet the individual needs and wishes of the family. It is entirely up to you as to how you would like the ceremony to be organised but they usually take about 20 - 30mins.
Music in the background can help to provide a more relaxed and meaningful ceremony.
An integral part of the ceremony is the presentation of certificates for the Godparents/Guardians, Grandparents and Great-Grandparents. All other certificates requested for special people will be an additional cost.
The parents will be presented with a naming certificate and a booklet of the ceremony.
